Описание к видео Japan: Nikko to Lake Chūzenji scenic drive 4k

A scenic drive from Nikko to Lake Chūzenji then back to Nikko on the famous Irohazaka Winding Road. The Irohazaka Winding Road is the driving mountain road used in Initial D.

April 1, 2024

"Nikko (日光, Nikkō) is a town at the entrance to Nikko National Park, most famous for Toshogu, Japan's most lavishly decorated shrine and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Nikko had been a center of Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship for many centuries before Toshogu was built in the 1600s, and Nikko National Park continues to offer scenic, mountainous landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, wild monkeys and hiking trails.

Nikko and the Okunikko area around Lake Chuzenji, in particular, are well known for their beautiful autumn colors (koyo). In the average year the colors start descending from the higher elevations of Yumoto Onsen in early October, are best around Lake Chuzenji and the Irohazaka road in mid to late October and reach the town of Nikko in the first half of November.

Nikko is located along Japan's Romantic Road."

"Lake Chuzenji (中禅寺湖, Chūzenjiko) is a scenic lake in the mountains above the town of Nikko. It is located at the foot of Mount Nantai, Nikko's sacred volcano, whose eruption blocked the valley below, thereby creating Lake Chuzenji about 20,000 years ago.

Chuzenjiko's shores are mostly undeveloped and forested except at the lake's eastern end where the small hot spring town of Chuzenji Onsen was built. The town is also the site of Kegon Waterfall, the most famous of several waterfalls in Nikko National Park. Another popular waterfall, Ryuzu Waterfall, is located at the northern shores of Lake Chuzenji where Yukawa River discharges into the lake.

Chuzenjiko is especially beautiful in mid to late October, when the autumn colors reach their peak along the lake's shores and surrounding mountains. And during Japan's hot summers, the lake's high elevation (1269 meters above sea level) keeps the area cool and comfortable, which in the past has attracted foreign embassies to build recreation villas along its shores.

It is possible to hike around the entire 25 kilometer circumference of Lake Chuzenji via hilly lakeside walking trails. Alternatively, the lake can be enjoyed from sightseeing boats that depart from Chuzenji Onsen. Panoramic views from above are possible from along the Chuzenjiko Skyline, an eight kilometer long former toll road which is now free of charge."

"The Iroha Slope is a pair of spectacular sightseeing roads connecting the World Heritage-listed town of Nikko, around 150km north of Tokyo, with serene Lake Chuzenji in the mountainous Oku-Nikko region. Centuries ago, mountain ascetics would walk this winding route to reach sacred Mt. Nantai or Chuzenji temple from Nikko.

The modern road is made up of two one-way routes: the first Iroha Slope road (built in 1954) runs downhill from Lake Chuzenji to Nikko, while the second Iroha Slope road (built in 1965) climbs uphill. Together, these two roads twist around 48 sharp curves. In Japanese, zaka is a slope, and Iroha refers to a famous Heian-period (794–1179) poem which in its composition uses the 48 hiragana characters of the old Japanese alphabet only once each. Each of the Iroha Slope’s bends is marked by a sign displaying one of these hiragana characters.

On the drive up, it's possible to pause at the Akechidaira Observatory to fully admire the panoramic views of the Nikko National Park. The Iroha Slope is also famous for being one of Japan's best locations for viewing autumn foliage every October and early November. During this season, the 16km road can become very congested."

"Nikko Irohazaka is a one-way road climbing and descending the Iroha Slope near the city of Nikko, Japan in Tochigi Prefecture. The downhill half of this course was featured in the Manga and Anime Initial D. The entire loop consists of both uphill and downhill sections, including a tunnel section and a 2-way street connecting the two roads. It would be great to have another large course represented in this game with aggressive hairpin corners.

I searched this section, and couldn't find anything in Irohozaka, so I guess I'll start this.

Irohozaka is a touge that is located Japan. It is unique compared to other Japanese touge due to having separate uphill and downhill routes....which, make a loop :)"
