An announcement by the FBI/DOJ today revealed that an undercover operation titled "Operation Nightingale" uncovered that schools had sold over 7600 nursing degrees. It is estimated that at least 1/3 of those nurses passed NCLEX board exams, and these fraudulent nurses have been and could still be practicing in multiple states. The task force stated that 25 individuals connected with the schools have been charged with various fraud charges. The 3 schools collected over $114 million dollars in fees to produce the fraudulent degrees and transcripts, and went undetected by the Florida State Board of Nursing for several years. The school charged anywhere from $10k for LPN degrees, and $17k for RN degrees.
Special Agent in Charge Chad Yarbrough, FBI Miami. stated: “What is disturbing about this investigation is that there are over 7,600 people around the country with fraudulent nursing credentials who are potentially in critical health care roles treating patients. Were it not for the diligence and hard work of the investigators on this case, the extent of this fraud may not have been discovered.”
Special Agent in Charge Chad Yarbrough further stated in his press release that the nursing students did not attend any classes or complete any clinical training.
schools involved were as follows
Palm Beach School of Nursing
Sacred Heart International Institute
Siena College aka: Siena Education Center - A Florida based LLC

What implications does this have on Compact Licensure? What does this mean for Universities who accepted these individuals into advanced degree programs? How much money was collected from Federal Financial Aid and Grant programs were funneled through these programs? How far does this all reach?
