Absolute world boxing champions (1892-2007)

Описание к видео Absolute world boxing champions (1892-2007)

Until the mid-1960s, virtually all world champions were "Absolute". At that time, this term was practically not used, the first mention of it dates back to the 1970s. The two main boxing organizations - the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Association - recognized a single world champion, who, accordingly, was "Absolute". Beginning in the 1960s, champions began to appear who held one of these titles. Both organizations began to maintain their own ratings of boxers and conduct unification fights. The International Boxing Federation entered the list of leading boxing organizations in 1984, so in order to become the "Absolute" world champion, one had to win this title as well. The last organization at the moment, which was recognized as one of the main ones, is the World Boxing Organization - this happened in 2007.
The absolute world champion is a boxer who has world champion titles in all significant versions of boxing organizations.
