College Consultants - Are they worth it?

Is it worth it to pay a college consultant to help you with college planning? Bobby and I talked about the reasons you should or should not hire a college consultant. A key take away is that every family is different, every kids journey is different. We encourage you to not get too caught up in the should do's and think more about the end goal. If you have a child that has the grades and the test scores to get into his school of choice, you probably do not need a college planner to help you. If your child has no idea what she wants to do regarding which school to attend and/or grades are on the cusp and/or you don't know how or don't want to be in the thick of helping her figure it out, a college planing person may be a good investment for you. Cherry picking the services that you need may be a more economical way of getting through this process. Hiring an essay writing coach to help with scholarship essays may be a good investment. Hiring an SAT/ACT coach like Bobby if you need a couple extra points to get into school or to get a merit award like we did with my son, provided us a great return on our investment. Or working with someone like me to help your kids get confident on what they wan tot major in while they are there can be helpful for the kid that "has no idea what they want to do".
