Squamous anal carcinoma is considered to be a rare disease and currently has few treatment options, where few patients response to checkpoint inhibitors. Cristina Smolenski, MD, Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France, comments on findings from a molecular profiling study of patients with squamous anal carcinoma. PIK3CA mutations were found in approximately a third of patients, and HR3 and high tumor mutation burden (TMB) were additionally found in patients. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
