Great Books: Letters to a Young Poet

Описание к видео Great Books: Letters to a Young Poet

Rainer Maria Rilke was born in 1875 in Prague, which was then part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. By the time he entered Charles University he had already published his first book of poetry. Rilke lived throughout Europe, but primarily in Paris where he at one time worked as secretary to the sculptor Rodin and had a mistress trained in psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud.

Rilke became known for his elegant language and in a series of ten letters written from 1902 to 1908 gave advice on finding one's own voice as a poet, on dealing with solitude and difficulty, on having relationships with women, and on finding one's destiny. Let see what advice we might glean for ourselves as we explore Rilke's "Letters to a Young Poet."
