Alaska sits at the heart of our world’s most pressing contemporary environmental challenges, including climate change, resource and public lands management, and biodiversity loss. The B.A. in Environmental Studies (ENVS) offers an interdisciplinary major for students interested in environmental problem solving, environmental communication, and sustainability studies. This dynamic major focuses on exploring diverse perspectives and approaches to understanding relationships across the natural world. Led by accomplished faculty with expertise that spans the social, natural, and Indigenous sciences, humanities, policy, and practice, students are prepared for careers in a variety of environmental sectors. The flexible curriculum draws on various intellectual traditions from the Institute of Culture and Environment, incorporating community-based and applied learning to foster an integrated understanding of contemporary environmental issues. Our students thrive by bridging Western and Indigenous sciences, using the latest scientific methods, technology, and tools to gain a deep understanding of the ever- changing world around them.
