Zebra sounds and noises, zebra barking

Описание к видео Zebra sounds and noises, zebra barking

Zebra is a non-taxonomic group of horses consisting of two subgenera. The subgenus Hippotigris includes such species as the mountain zebra and Burchell's zebra, and the subgenus Dolichohippus includes the desert zebra (Equus grevyi). Hybrid forms between zebras and domestic horses are called zebroids; hybrids between zebras and donkeys - zebras.

Despite the common features - black and white stripes - all three types of zebras are not closer relatives to each other than to other horses. In an extinct subspecies, the plains zebra, the stripes were limited to the neck area, while some distant species also have similar stripes on the body (for example, the okapi).

Evolutionarily, stripes are probably a means of camouflage. Yes, it is difficult for predators to distinguish where one individual ends and another begins in a herd of zebras.

Initially, zebras were distributed throughout Africa. But in North Africa, these animals disappeared long ago.

Today, the range of the plain zebra covers the south of Sudan and Ethiopia, the savannas of East Africa to the very south of the continent. The desert zebra is found in the dry savannas of East Africa, in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. Mountain zebra is the least common species. Its range is limited to the plateau of Namibia and South Africa, where it is found at an altitude of up to 2000 m. Zebras feed on grasses and fruits. It often happens that the reservoirs used by zebras dry up, so sometimes zebras are forced to migrate.
