Batman Returns is a 1992 American superhero movie that was written and directed by Tim Burton. It is the follow-up to Batman (1989) and the second film in the quadrilogy of Batman films from 1989 to 1997, all of which are based on the DC Comics character Batman. The disfigured crime boss Oswald Cobbleplot / Penguin and wealthy businessman Max Shreck, who seek prestige and power at the expense of Gotham City, are antagonists in the movie's plot, which pits the superhero vigilante Batman against them. Selina Kyle, Shreck's formerly submissive secretary, complicates their plans as Catwoman, who seeks retribution against Shreck. Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Michael Gough, Pat Hingle, and Michael Murphy are among the actors who appear in the film.
