Choir of Chapel Royal, directed by Stanley Roper, sings Mendelssohn's 'There shall a star.' The first recording, in situ, of a main-stream choir to be electrically recorded using the recently perfected condenser microphone, on 20 March 1926.

The sound from the Chapel Royal was relayed via GPO telephone lines to HMVs Upper Queen's Hall studio D. The famous Mobile Recording Van did not come into service 1927.

Electrical recordings enabled the choir to be recorded in their own locations and for the first time the entire choir could be recorded, complete with the acoustics of the building and of course, the organ.
