Old Fashioned Marble Butter cake

Recipe:
Cake batter-
240g margarine
160g caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 medium eggs
220g all purpose flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
80ml milk
For marble effect:
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 tsp coffee powder
2 tbsp hot water

Method:
Beat margarine and caster sugar until fluffy.

Gradually add the eggs one by one, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla extract and mix well.

Gradually add sifted flour and baking powder to the mixture, mixing until just combined.

Add milk gradually and mix until smooth.

Take out 5 tablespoons of the batter and mix it with the cocoa and coffee mixture until well combined.

Alternatively pour the plain and cocoa batters into the prepared Kugelhopf cake mold.

Use a chopstick to gently swirl through the mixture to create a marble effect. Tap the tin to remove any air bubbles.

Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C for 35-40 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.


Five Spice Donut / Ham Chin Peng
(Make 8 donut)

220g flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 1/2. tsp sugar
1/4 tsp five spice powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp yeast
130-140ml water, approximately
1/2 tbsp oil
Sesame seeds

Five spice mixture:
2 tsp five spice powder
Pinch of salt
1-2 tsp water as needed

Method:
Mix together sifted flour, sugar, yeast, salt, baking powder and five spice powder.
Knead until smooth and soft dough
Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

Mix the five spice powder, salt and water. Set aside.

Flour the working surface and roll out the dough into rectangle shape. (12inch x 8inch)
Spread the five spice mixture evenly on the dough.

Roll into long log and cut into 8 equal pieces.

Take one dough, sprinkle with sesame seeds and some flour to prevent the dough sticking on the surface.

Slightly press the dough into rounds and do the same with the remaining dough.

Cover the dough for 15 minutes. Deep fry until golden
