The main difference between them is their dimensions and sizes.
Different cookware manufacturers have different dimensions for their Dutch Ovens, but typically, oval ones are longer, shorter in height, and have a bigger diameter than their round counterparts. They also tend to come in bigger size options. For instance, Le Creuset, one of the most popular Dutch Oven manufacturers, produces oval Dutch Ovens ranging from 2 ¾ qt. to 15 ½ qt. Its round ones vary from 2 qt. to 13 ¼ qt. Therefore, Oval Dutch Ovens are larger and come in more size options.

Stovetop Heat Distribution
Due to the oval Dutch Ovens’ oblong shape, they do not fit well on regular stovetop burners. The edges usually extend past the flames or heat source. As a result, the contents of these Dutch Oven will not receive heat evenly, resulting in disproportionate cooking.
