What is the game?
A game is an activity that one engages in for amusement or fun.

as simple as it sounds, there is a lot of thinking and work that needs to be done to make a game that is actually fun to play

Game engines:
In the past, game developers and publishers have developed their own game engines and are now moving to commercial engines for their new games.
The first is engines developed for specific games and whose developers are licensing the engines to the public.
Quake and Unreal are two excellent FPS engines that fall into this category.

The second category is engines that have been develop Developed from the ground up as general-purpose products for the game industry
For example Unity3D engine

Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies.

As of 2018, the engine had been extended to support more than 25 platforms.

The engine can be used to create 2D, 3D, VR, and AR games, as well as simulations, that's why Unity3D was adopted by other Industries outside video gaming, such as film, automotive, architecture, engineering, and construction.

Several major versions of Unity have been released since its launch. The latest stable version, 2021.1.0 which was released on 23 March 2021.
And this is the version that we will be using throughout the course.

For the most part, these engines are helpful if you are developing a game in the same genre the engine was originally made for,

but are not the most efficient for other types of games.

Non-Commercial engines.
Of course, there are non-commercial engines that were developed by private companies for their use or licensing.
These engines are not available to the public

Now let’s discuss why we should use Unity3D for game development.
There are many areas where Unity3D truly shines as a game engine, and
these are the reasons why it is so popular.

Unity3D provides excellent documentation and a manual where everything is described in detail. It has many examples and video and text tutorials, and live training sessions on its official website.

Also, there's a big community that can offer advice to help resolve any situations that you may face during the development process.

Along with the official Unity resources, many high-quality third-party tutorials are available (and often free ).

Due to its easy-to-use and simple interface, you'll find yourself experimenting and mastering the game engine in no time.

Even if you are trying to make video games by yourself, Unity offers a huge collection of free and paid assets through their assets store, where you can download everything your game might need, from 3D models, textures, sound effect, music, and even plugins that extend and adds new features to the engine.

Just by using Unity, you can build your game and distribute it across many platforms, from consoles like PlayStation and Xbox to handheld devices like the Nintendo Switch and mobile platform (android and iOS)

All this together makes unity Indie (independent game developer) friendly.
