Japan (Noto) earthquake January 2024: tectonic setting

Описание к видео Japan (Noto) earthquake January 2024: tectonic setting

New Year's Day 2024 - an earthquake strikes the NW coast of Honshu, Japan. Find out about the tectonic setting of this earthquake - and its possible origin in a reactivated fault. This video is part of The Shear Zone Channel - which hosts videos on tectonics and geology. It was made in the first couple of hours after the main quake. Since then there have been a lot of after-shocks. It's worth checking out both the USGS and IRIS earthquake sites for information that has come in since I made this quick report - though the main idea here - that this was on a reactivated normal fault (inversion tectonics) seems to fit the developing information too.
