David Rubenstein interviews Rick Atkinson

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Atkinson discusses The British Are Coming, his first volume of the Revolution Trilogy, with patriotic philanthropist and noted interviewer David Rubenstein.

Atkinson was awarded the 2020 George Washington Prize, which recognizes the year’s best new books on early American history. Co-sponsored by Mount Vernon, The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and Washington College, the prize ranks among the largest and most prestigious in the publishing industry.

The prize jury writes, "The British Are Coming is an exquisite masterpiece of history by one of the nation’s foremost writers and historians. There is a newness, eloquence, and immediacy in Atkinson’s telling that surpasses any previous Revolutionary War narrative; it conveys to the reader a sense of discovering the American Revolution for the very first time, in all of its sheer drama. This volume embraces the lived experience of the war’s early years with all of its complexities, ironies, triumphs, and tragedies."
