The first 16-bit outing for Sega's then-mascot needed to not just demonstrate the power of the Sega Genesis, but also prove the sophistication and depth of the games would be an improvement over the Master System.

Ultimately, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle is neither. It might look a bit prettier, but it's really no different to Miracle World.

This isn't a bad game as such, but it's just so unremarkable. Playing this makes you realise just how important Sonic the Hedgehog was to Sega's branding, and how vital he would be in the coming war with Nintendo.
