Cooling or Chilling plays a very important role during the design of the feeding system. Chills are available in almost any shape and from different materials to cool down certain areas in the casting part from the inside or from the surface of the cavity. By adding chills the solidification direction can be manipulated and directed into the direction the foundryman wants it to go to get rid of shrinkage defects!
