Types of Surgery most commonly done for Hip Dysplasia are:
Triple pelvic osteotomy (dog younger than 5-Bmonths)
Correction takes place before skeletal maturity and secondary changes occur. The pelvis is cut through at 3 areas to realign the hip socket. Plate and screws are used to stabilize the area
Femoral head and neck osteotomy (FHO)
Femur head and neck is removed to relieve pain in the hip joint. There is no longer a hip joint and a pseudo joint will form by fibrous soft tissue
Total hip replacement
Artificial hip joint created by replacing the hip socket and femur head with titanium/stainless steel prosthesis.
Treatment options (conservative or post-operative) vary, depending on the age of the dog and the severity of the deformity, the usual ones are:
• Hydrotherapy (Swim/ Underwater treadmill)
• Ultrasound
• EMS/TENS
• Laser therapy
• Therapeutic exercises
• Kinesiotape
