(9 Dec 2014) Irish President Michael D. Higgins met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday as part of a ten-day visit to China.
Xi held a red-carpet welcoming ceremony for Higgins on his first state visit to the country, and the two presidents then held an official meeting.
The main purpose of Higgins' visit is to promote Chinese investment in Ireland.
The Irish President is accompanied by a delegation of leading Irish state companies, including IDA Ireland - the country's foreign investment agency.
