Hello everyone! For those of you following my journey, you know that I’m a 22-year-old fighting acute myeloid leukemia (AML)…but, what I bet you didn’t know is that I had the opportunity to become Canadian popstar “Robin Stemcells” for a day.
The goal of this little passion project of mine is to spread awareness for the need to broaden the stem cell registry and to thank everyone for their never-ending support. I am so grateful that my family, friends and community have battled alongside me every step of the way. Even though this fight isn’t an easy one, it has the potential to make change. I hope this video is able to convey the need for stem cell donors as well as the simplicity of registering.
The following video is inspired by Robin Sparkles’ “Let’s Go to the Mall” (from How I Met Your Mother) *I highly recommend watching this video first, as I tried very hard to replicate it with some artistic liberties of course ;) *. I wrote the lyrics during my induction round of chemotherapy. I created and mixed the instrumental tracks and then recorded the vocals in between hospital stays. I filmed the scenes with my amazing friends and family, created animated clips and finally edited the video all before the deadline I set for myself (which is today, as I get admitted tomorrow for my second stem cell transplant… yay!).
Please know that every act of kindness moves mountains, and in the words of Robin Stemcells “there’s a cure in your bloodstream”. So… let’s all go get swabbed TODAY!

Lyrics:
Let's all get swabbed, everybody!
Come on Jessica, come on Tori,
Let's all go get swabbed, you won't be sorry.
If you’re 17-35,
Grab your cool graffiti coat.
Get swabbed, save a life is what it's all about.
Haven’t become a donor yet (That's OK!)
And you know how my stomach gets (However!).
I don’t care, ‘cause it’s just a swab and a questionnaire.
Everybody join the team!
There’s a cure in your bloodstream!
Let’s all go get swabbed, today!
(Allo BMT, I love it!)
There's this boy they found,
Had him on the registry.
Got the same blood type
He’s the perfect match genetically.
When they call him up,
Ask him to be the one
I hope it’ll be a yes!
(The Robot thinks it would be fun)
Rules say you’re not in age range (Shame!)
But baby, you can make a change (Let's do it!).
That's OK, you can give blood and money anyway.
You can volunteer each and every day.
Everybody join the team!
There’s a cure in your bloodstream!
Let’s all go get swabbed, today!
I went to get swabbed with a couple of friends.
I registered online over the weekend.
I got swab kit and a cheek to scratch.
I signed up to help and I signed up to match.
I turned around and who should I see?
The Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.
He said, "Young lady, I do approve",
So I had to get down and bust a crazy move.
Hit it Fred, come on!
Let's go get swabbed!
Let’s go get swabbed everybody!
Everybody join the team!
There’s a cure in your bloodstream!
Let’s all go get swabbed, today!
Everybody loves the swab!
Everybody join the team (Yeah!)!
There’s a cure in your bloodstream (I love my new marrow!)!
Let’s all go get swabbed, today!
Today, today, today, today, today…
Let’s go get swabbed, let’s go get swabbed…
