Pranam! We have very strong winds here today. Weather is a bit overcast and beautiful cold winds are blowing. These winds remind me of something which I will present to you today. That is, when these winds blow, Yogi's mind conceptualizes Prana and Wind/Air element. Yogi's existence is based on Yoga. Yoga considers 'breath' as an very important element along with other things like discipline, pure mind and other conceptualizations. The breath that we take in and and let out. This Prana/Breath is very important in Yoga. Surya Yogis, Hath Yogis, Raj Yogis and Kriya Yogis, all practice pranayams. But before some one starts practising pranayams, should understand where does pranayam starts. Using knowledge of Swaras(rhythms) (Swara Science) one can know which swara(rhythm) is functional and which swara relates to which body system. There is one full chapter given by God Mahadev(Shiva) in which he explains about Swara science. But even before the Swara Sceince, Paranayams begin with this Wind. When a Yogi closes their eyes and experiences this wind which is filled with freshness, coldness. When this wind comes in contact with the Yogi's nostrils, it it enters the body along with many kinds of tastes, smells and experiences. Hence, this is like a addiction. Hence, in ancient times when one was started with Yoga, Gurukuls used to warn students about being in self discipline and not get attached to these smells and tastes. Because if you get attached to smelling a particular kind of odour, then it can be harmful for you. Hence, before beginning Pranayams you should practice taking in the smells and identifying them. This process comes under conceptualization (dhaarana). I have seen many people practice pranayams a lot, and it is a good thing as Pranayam is important and it should be practised to flawlessness. However, Pranayam is not only about taking in breath, but to understand the breath that we are inhaling. There is something special in this Breath/Prana. For this, you will have to meditate with eyes closed. You will have to fill your lungs with breath. And try to experience where is this breath reaching you within, what is it doing within and how it is transforming you from within. This is very important and this is where Pranayams begin. Can you experience the cold breath like this? Can you experience with different smells it brings? Can you experience it's taste? Can you experience the transformation it is causing? These are some things which look very ordinary, but it is very important to understand this simple breathing properly. Pranayam comes much later. Hence a good Yogi or Guru teaches you Swara Science before teaching pranayam. And a good yogi inspires you to know minute properties of the incoming breath such as smell and taste before beginning with Swara Science. Hence, it feels very beautiful as I can smell the aroma of this tree. Weather is a bit moist and cold right now. I can experience the moisture present in these winds and on my skin. It is really cold today but full of nice smells. And this is giving me a different experience. I am experiencing a different element. Are you experiencing it? Do experience it. Then you will understand that this smell can take you to far places. The way I am experiencing you too can and begin your journey of Pranayams. And give a new dimension to your journey. Do the practice although it is difficult in the beginning. Initial days were difficult for me as well, But I did learn and can experience it now. You too will learn it quickly and experience it. I can smell many kinds of odours as the environment around me is very strange. It consists of a city, trees, strong winds. I am experiencing all that including the moisture. Do take a look at this environment. It is beautiful and I will spend some time meditating in it. You also try and experience your environment to see if it has Prana or life force in it. I will get into this meditation now. You too try to get this experience. Om namha shivay! Pranam!
