After a quiet morning on the beach at New Aberdour, I head north along Scotland’s beautiful northeast coast in my micro camper “D’Artagnan.”
I stop briefly in Banff and Portsoy, then continue inland to Aberlour for a week-long housesit. The village feels peaceful and charming, and I settle in with my feline companion for the stay – a gentle cat named Duchess.
During the week, I take a day trip to Inverness and a short stop by Loch Ness before heading deeper into the Highlands.
Near the end of my stay, I visit Balvenie Castle – and something unexpected happens: I meet a herd of Highland cows with a young calf. Two of them gently groom each other, and one even lets me stroke her. For me, that moment was unforgettable.

Nach einem kurzen Blick auf meinen Strandplatz bei New Aberdour fahre ich mit meinem Mikrocamper die Küste hoch nach Banff und Portsoy und weiter nach Aberlour, wo ich meinen Housesit beginne. Dort kümmere ich mich um die süße Katze „Duchess“ und mache von hier aus eine Tagesfahrt nach Inverness und an den Loch Ness.
Am Ende meines Aufenthalts besuche ich Balvenie Castle – und treffe dort schottische Highland-Rinder mit einem kleinen Kälbchen. Einer der friedlichen Riesen lässt sich sogar von mir streicheln.
Ein ruhiger Roadtrip durch den Nordosten Schottlands – Vanlife, Housesit und ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis mit den Highland-Kühen.
