Gallium oxide is used for making gallium chloride by the reaction with hydrochloric acid.
First, you take gallium metal!
Then add nitric acid to the gallium metal!
Then form the gallium nitrate. And purify.
Then youu decompose the gallium nitrate to gallium oxide by heating it to around 250 degrees Celsius to 500 degrees Celsius!
Then take the gallium oxide and react it with either concentrated hydrochloric acid or thionyl chloride!
Then you can isolate you gallium (III) chloride!
Gallium (III) chloride is a good replacement for mercuric chloride for activating aluminum foil for reductive aminations and hydrogen production!
