Ball & Chain is a song that I wrote to reflect the inner mind and conversations of a person wrestling with addiction. As someone who has always wrestled with an addictive personality and operating in extremes, I’ve always felt a lot of compassion for others in their struggles. And it saddens me to hear people criticize and judge others because their struggles may appear different or “worse.” But who are we to judge one struggle as lesser or greater than another, for we all fall short. Whether your double mindedness revolves around substance use, food, exercise, gossip, doom scrolling, etc… Know that the human nature of your struggle comes from the same nature as your neighbors.

I’ll admit it, something’s weighing heavily on my chest-
That I must confess
And I cant’ bear the weight of holding onto all of this-
