Smoking a Montecristo Cigar for the First Time

Smoking a Montecristo Cigar for the First Time..

Specifically, I had the Classic Series Tubo Especial, which cost me $14, was made in the Dominican Republic, and contained a Connecticut Wrapper, along with both a Binder and Filler from the DR as well.

Montecristo, supposedly named after the book, "The Count of Monte Cristo" was originally a Cuban cigar brand that was first introduced in 1935, and supposedly, the nameplate quickly grew to some popularity.

However, in the early 1960's, the brand split, due to the Cuban revolution and nationalization of tobacco plantations and factories.

Today, the nameplate is much more popular and notable than not around the world, and is produced within both Cuba and the Dominican Republic, and is owned in both countries, at least in part, by Altadis, a subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco.
