Replacing Cheap Humbuckers With Boutique Pickups by Gadow. Ryan Gadow Vintage Wound Humbuckers. I had an amazing experience after stepping into the doors of American Guitar Boutique.
Originally looking for chrome pickup rings, I ended up leaving with a NOS set of vintage wound spec pickups by Ryan Gadow. They were wound in 2008 and Gadow is no longer functioning as a company but, the sound is absolutely glorious. They have a magical air to them that has entranced me. I had fallen out of love with humbuckers after going single-coil crazy for the past two years or so, but now I realize tat the v needs to be a V and that means HUMBUCKERS. They have chrome covers and are wax potted. The sound is quite remarkable. It has everything that I would want out of a humbucker: complete tonal range, lots of high-end response, almost has a single-coil vibe but more pushed mid-range and compression, with a little microphonic hash that I love. These pickups have been giving me fever dreams -- they are that good.
My original intention was to have a trem (Les Trem) and P94's. Currently, the guitar is sans trem and now has humbuckers like a proper V. The G.M. pickups are also quite good, so they will go in another guitar.
The pickups were purchased at my fave local store American Guitar Boutique. Tim, one of the owners, had this NOS humbucker set sitting around since his store days in CA. I was the lucky guy that walked in and encountered them. Tim gave me a super sweet deal (thank you, Tim! and the rest is sonic bliss.
