Ford's SYNC 3 | New Car Technology | Autotrader

Quick, easy-to-use infotainment is more important than ever to today's drivers and passengers, so Ford has recently updated the MyFord Touch infotainment system with an all-new system dubbed Ford SYNC 3. Our latest video takes a closer look at the ins and outs of SYNC 3.
Currently, there are two levels of SYNC: a basic one with a system called MyFord and an upscale version paired to a touchscreen system called MyFord Touch. MyFord Touch is being phased out in place of this new top-tier system dubbed SYNC 3.
Essentially, SYNC 3 builds on Ford's existing SYNC features, including items such as hands-free calling and a variety of voice features that allow you to make adjustments to the car's climate control or audio system without taking your eyes off the road. So what exactly has changed?
Most noticeably, it's the layout: no more color-coded 4-corners setup for SYNC 3. We think the result is a little less elegant but ultimately easier to use thanks to larger text. There's also a new menu bar along the bottom, which we think users will find easy to learn right away. SYNC 3 also offers a simpler layout than MyFord Touch: There's no more digging through layers to find certain features or settings. And we like the 8-inch touchscreen, which responds a lot like an iPad.
With upgraded software, Ford SYNC 3 is also a lot faster than the old MyFord Touch. And it's smarter, too. With enhanced voice recognition, SYNC 3 responds naturally to your own voice. Other new features include AppLink, which allows for voice control of smartphone apps, and Siri Eyes Free for iPhone users.
Ford is hoping SYNC 3 will appeal to both the tech-savvy and the not-so-tech-savvy driver -- and from what we've seen, we think it will succeed.
