The trial court has delivered its verdict in the Kerala actor assault case, eight years after the crime. While six accused were convicted, actor Dileep who was accused of masterminding the assault, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The verdict has triggered widespread protests across Kerala under the banner ‘Avalkkoppam’ which means “we stand with her”.

From the International Film Festival of Kerala to online platforms, artists, activists, and citizens are questioning whether the verdict amounts to justice. The survivor herself has spoken about losing faith in the trial court’s fairness.
