Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng congratulates employees of the Building Permits and Code Compliance & Enforcement Departments who have attained higher levels of Certification through the International Property Maintenance Code Council.
Jefferson Parish now provides incentives for Building Permits employees to gain multi-discipline certifications. As a result, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspections (and other trades inspections) can be done by one individual. The department's long-term goal is to have residential inspectors capable of performing all required inspections to increase flexibility and efficiency.
For Code Compliance & Enforcement inspectors, the certification supports their “expert witness” status when testifying in hearings for property maintenance citations. The certification also gives them additional training on determining legally defensible substandard conditions which helps the Dangerous Building Abatement division of Code Compliance & Enforcement.
