Nemesis of Motherhood brings out the sorrow of motherhood in a world of poverty and absolute deprivation, where mothers either lose their children after birth or die themselves.

In every minute, the death of the mother shatters a family and threatens the well-being of a surviving child. For them motherhood remains a distant dream due to an unholy alliance between poverty and ill health. The maternity mortality ratio is exceptionally high with 407 women dying each year per one lakh live birth, with the worst affected being the state of Odisha.
