Psalm 150:3-5 says: "Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals."

I welcome you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

The pipe organ is a gift from God, to God, and for the people of God. The people of God means everybody - not just those who pass through those doors each week, member or friend, citizen or foreigner, but every member of the human race. Our doors - and our music - are open and available to everyone. We are all the same in Christ.

Music provides discipline in a disordered world. It provides expression for an aching soul.  It makes sense out of the senseless. Ludwig van Beethoven said, “Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.”

It is in this moment in space and time that we pause to take in some of the last notes this beloved instrument will play, in concert. For 52 years the M P Moller pipe organ has faithfully, and perhaps occasionally with an attitude, served well our congregation and community in its current form. Soon dismantling will begin, as will a new era in Elim’s music ministry.

This is NOT the end. This is a farewell, yes… but it is also ’see you later, dear friend’. Just as the 1930 Wangerin pipe organ gave way to its rebuild in 1974, the Moller is being reimagined and will be returned to us by the Moe Organ Company as a renewed, improved and more impactful instrument. This spring the new chancel organ, the part of the organ behind the altar, will begin its new song, and by Easter 2027 we will hear the full organ swell once more, proclaiming the risen Christ.
