East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association gheraoes Police Station in Shillong: Here’s Why

Members of the East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association on Saturday attempted to enter the Sadar Police Station to ascertain the identity of those arrested on Friday evening. Members of the association wanted to let the eyewitnesses identify the miscreants since they are sceptical about the police’s intention. However, the association members were met with tight security as CRPF and police personnel were seen guarding the gates and any entry inside the police station was restricted.

Later after negotiating, five members of the association were allowed to enter the police station to identify those arrested. Following a discussion, the members of the association confirmed to the gathering that they had met the officer-in-charge who showed them the identification details of those arrested. The officer-in-charge also explained to them that law does not allow the public to identify any miscreants outside of the court and eyewitnesses will only be summoned after the accused are presented in the court.
