If you disagree with your income tax Notice of Assessment, the first step would be to call the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to discuss the situation and try to resolve it. If this does not work, you can file a notice of objection.

Before drafting a federal or provincial Notice of Objection, you should review all the facts and documents available related to the disputed issue. For example, you should consult with your CPA or a tax lawyer to obtain a clear understanding of the CRA’s position to best contest the matter in question.
