My second Animenz arrangement! I must say, his easier arrangements are still hard for me. Learning harder pieces makes me respect other musicians and it helps me understand what I am listening to. Change the World is still harder though.
Since I'm slowly getting better at the piano, I decided to challenge myself with Animenz arrangements. I chose to learn Avid 86 specifically because of how it sounds. The intro was fairly easy. It was more musical work than technical. The intro gives a very gloomy tone. I have never watched 86, but the intro reminds me of what I would hear after the main character has finally overcome a great obstacle but at the cost of something too great to lose.
The first and second choruses were pretty much copied and pasted. Something I have been noticing in some of his arrangements is that he only changes it on the final chorus(His BOY arrangement is an example). Thankfully this was the case because I would have spent a little more time. One of the first challenges is the runs. Although the rhythm wasn’t super complicated, it was the speed that was troubling me. But eventually, I got it to the performance tempo.
The second challenge was the final chorus. Oh boy, was this a nightmare. His use of thirds and fourths is brilliant. I imagined a type of traditional dance when I hear this final chorus. This is three-hand technique. Playing the thirds and then jumping back to the melody, which was played in octaves, was tricky because the melody didn’t stand out that much. I did play this during a recital. It took place in ‪@WattKeys‬ discord server(subscribe to him he’s pretty cool) i did make a lot of mistakes during my performance but it was really fun playing for people. It was also quite humbling.
The final challenge was to make it sound musical. I had to make everything stand out, even if there wasn’t much going on.
This is my favourite animenz arrangement that I can play. I do plan to learn more Animenz arrangements. I might learn History Maker of BIOS next.
