I don't see any value in references! At a time when we need to ensure the work we're doing adds value and is efficient, references just don't achieve that.

I think references are carried out for historical reasons that add very little value today. In this video I give 7 reasons why references are simply not worth taking up.

Disclaimer: There are a number of regulated industries such as care and education where you have a duty to take references. Whilst I still think my concerns with references stand and I strongly recommend you really consider what you're being told and why you're being told it. You must in these industries take references! My opinion does not override your legal duties.
