Ana Maria Pacheco is a painter, sculptor and printmaker who was born in Brazil in 1943 and has lived in England since 1973. Her work deals with issues of control and the exercise of power, drawing upon the tensions between the old world of Europe and the new world of her Brazilian birth and looks unflinchingly upon the perilous world we encounter.

Ailbhe Ní Bhriain is a Cork–based artist who works with film and photography. The photographic series Inscriptions combines imagery from a number of different sources, referencing museum artefacts, expansive landscapes and studio debris.

John Gerrard is one of Ireland’s most celebrated international artists. Featuring the rivers Amazon, Danube, Nile and Yangtze, each computer simulation in Gerrard’s four newly commissioned artworks introduces a portrait of a small section of each river, integrating the buildings and flora on the riverbanks as visible reflections. At the centre of the scene is a gasoline spill – accurately refracting the light to create a vivid prismatic field, endlessly changing shape over time.

John Beard was born in Aberdare, Wales and now splits his time between London, Sydney, and Europe. His version of The Raft of the Medusa allows one to comprehend the Romantic grandeur and powerful beauty of the great masterpiece by Theodore Géricault which hangs in the Louvre, Paris. For GIAF 2017, the artist is creating a second much darker, life–size mirrored version of the work which will hang, at a distance of 30 meters, opposite this painting.

Nicola Gunwhy was born in Liverpool. Alongside her own development as an artist, she trained as a Clinical Psychologist, completing her Doctorate on children’s experiences of illness. In this exhibition of photography and installation, she draws upon her personal and professional experience of chronic health conditions, to examine the intersection between arts and health.
