I hadn’t mentioned it, but I sold my MN QPAS a while back. A useful enough stereo filter, but a lot of hp for something that wouldn’t even self-oscillate, so as I also had a v1 MI Ripples and a Doepfer SEM filter I sold it to fund the purchase of the SIG. But I still felt I was a filter short, so I looked around, watched some videos, trawled eBay and Reverb… After several ‘almost but not really’ purchases I was coming to the conclusion that I was either going to have to go high-end, or settle for second best.

And then the Juno newsletter listed the WMD C4RBN in their ‘back in stock’ section. I was surprised, because after WMD stopped building gear some months back I thought all remaining stock would have vanished like snow in summer. OK, it was a bit high-end price-wise, but I was surely never going to find another new one, so I bought it. It arrived this morning, and fortunately it was cool enough in the studio to bolt it in and give it a spin. And I can honestly say it has filled the (small: just 4hp) gap in my filter bank. It’s not being pushed too hard here, and I’m only modulating one parameter, but it is a very fine piece of gear indeed. Moral of the story? Always subscribe to newsletters. You don’t have to read them, but every so often the subscription pays off.

As does putting the word out. The Make Noise FB group have been aware for a while that I was after the discontinued Contour module, and last week someone gave me the heads-up that one had appeared on Reverb. Made an offer, had it accepted, and it was delivered inside 24hrs. This is the ADSR module I’ve been after since I went semi-modular- it’s part of the 0-Coast- but I’d not seen one until now. Strictly speaking it’s actually an OSD/R module cos MN are a bit weird (Onset, Sustain, Decay/Release), but it’s as snappy as you could wish (with the MN trademark log/exp knob) and I love it. Wait ‘til I start feeding it directly into the C4RBN!

Anyway, this was the second patch with both the Contour and the C4RBN, and a neater bit of modular funkiness I couldn’t have come up with if I’d tried. This has jumped the queue ahead of a couple of other pieces ‘in the can’- enjoy!
