Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman here wishing you have happy and festive Fourth of July Weekend.

Many of you will be traveling this summer and my office is here to help with any issues you may have getting or renewing your passport. With that in mind I want to offer you a few important tips.

First, be sure to check your passport BEFORE booking your travel. If your passport is expiring within the next six months you should renew your passport NOW. Also, if your child has turned 16 they will need to re-apply for their passport before traveling.

The standard passport application process takes between 10 and 13 weeks. Expedited passports take 7 to 9 weeks and carry a 60 dollar fee.

In an emergency, overnight services can return your passport in 1 to 2 business days and comes with an additional 20 dollar fee.

Given these turnaround times, if you plan on traveling outside of the country, check today to make sure your passport is up to date.

Muchos de ustedes estarán viajando este verano y mi oficina está aquí para ayudar con cualquier problema que tenga con obtener o renovar su pasaporte. Con eso en mente quiero ofrecer algunos consejos importantes.

Primero, asegúrese de verificar su pasaporte ANTES de reservar su viaje. Si su pasaporte está expirando el los próximos seis meses, usted debería renovar su pasaporte AHORA. También si su hija/hijo ha cumplido 16 años, necesitará aplicar para un nuevo pasaporte antes de viajar.

El proceso de una aplicación estándar de pasaporte toma entre 10 a 13 semanas. Servicio expedito o acelerado toma de 7 a 9 semanas y cuesta una tarifa adicional de 60 dólares.

En caso de una emergencia, los servicios de mensajería nocturnos pueden regresar su pasaporte en 1 a 2 días hábiles y viene con una tarifa adicional de 20 dólares.

Dados estos tiempos de respuesta, si planea viajar fuera del país verifique hoy que su pasaporte esté actualizado.
