Elisabeth Welch sings "Stormy Weather" from Derek Jarman's 1979 adaptation for the screen of William Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST.
The scene is the wedding of Prospero's daughter Miranda to Ferdinand, son of the King of Naples. At the request of the Prospero's vassal, the airy spirit Ariel, Elisabeth Welch appears as a goddess to serenade the wedding guests with the ballad "Stormy Weather" (written by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler in 1933, arranged by Steven Pruslin, performed by Elisabeth Welch, Steven Pruslin and Dave Campbell, and produced by Guy Ford).
Posted in memory of Elisabeth Welch 1904-2003 and Derek Jarman 1942-1994.
