Severe thunderstorms rolled through the upper North Island with gusty winds, rain and hail. A Watch for Severe Thunderstorms remains in place until 7pm tonight and Warnings will be issued if need be.

It’s Winds-day indeed as exposed parts of Auckland saw gusts of over 120 km/h. Things remain blustery with southwesterly winds for the rest of the day and an Orange Warning and several Watches remain until early Thursday for Strong Winds.

On Thursday the worst of the weather has moved away, apart from the odd passing shower, though things remain breezy over much of the country.
