Judith Butler’s Concept of Gender (Gender Trouble)

Judith Butler, a non binary calls for the disruption of the binary sex by subverting performative acts. Judith Butler believes that gender is perceived performance in society primarily through language because gender identity is constructed through performative acts like speech patterns. She says that there exists a possibility to construct gender by undoing the assigned role. Gender performativity is controlled by cultural sanctions and gender norms determined within societal structure.
