Go North East Riverside Depot Open Day 2022

On Sunday 15th May Go North East opened their doors once again to their Riverside depot. The depot is based in Gateshead near the Metrocentre and is home to over 170 buses and 500 staff.

The event showcased the latest brands and investments from over the past year. Last year we saw a line-up of the whole Xlines network to show off the different express services. This year they decided to make a Wrightbus/Volvo theme line-up with several vehicles such as a StreetDeck, Volvo B9TLs, a Volvo B5LH, and StreetLites. Each bus represented a different brand from different parts of the Go North East network highlighting their new look. This year Her Majesty The Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service. To celebrate, the event was jubilee-themed with Go North East’s Platinum Jubilee bus on display and even a Queen lookalike attended the event.

Just like last year, there was a dedicated zero-emissions area showing off both single and double-decker electric buses. The well-known and well-liked Yutong E10 Voltra bus was on display along with the Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV City Demonstrator, which is something we have not seen up here in the North East before. This was my first time seeing the Enviro400EV in person and from first impressions, it looks amazing both inside and out. So far this has been the nicest electric double-decker I have been on with comfort definitely being the main focus. I am very excited to ride this in the near future and hopefully Go North East will give this a go very soon.

As well, there were also lots of fun things for the kids to enjoy such as The North East Soft Play Bus which was fully kitted out with upper and lower soft play frames and a slide from top to bottom. And if that wasn’t enough! There was also an opportunity to get your photo taken in the driver’s seat with your name displayed on the front of the bus.

To top it all off, donations were also taken throughout the day which all went to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal which we can all agree is an amazing cause and very needed at this difficult time.
