Q: Why did you join Vendition's Sales Apprenticeship program?

Alex Holt: When I joined the Vendition Sales Apprenticeship Program, I was looking for a way to break into tech sales and with my background, there wasn't really going to be an easy route for me. Thankfully, through the Vendition program, I was able to get the skills that I needed to interview with these places. And luckily, I got a really good position at a really great company. I really wouldn't have been able to do it without this Vendition program.

Q: What do you like about being an SDR?

Alex Holt: What I like about being an SDR is the flexibility of it. I make my own schedule every day, so I can do things the way that works best for me, kind of my way of selling. I really like that there's definitely a support team around you that wants you to succeed, and continue to succeed, and for your managers to succeed. It goes up the company, and you're at the forefront of what a lot of these companies that you can be working for are going to be doing. Because they can make the greatest product, but if they have nobody to reel companies in and sell that product, it's not going to be a successful company at the end of the day. So it's definitely a really rewarding position. You make a big difference every day at your job.

Q: What is your advice for someone considering a Tech Sales career?

Alex Holt: The best advice I have for somebody considering this career is I think you need to be somebody who wants to talk to people. A big part of the job is going to be on the phone having these conversations, and trying to find where the pain points are of the person you're reaching out to, and trying to find where their current solution isn't working. Where you find that need, you have to kind of keep digging and digging and digging until you can get to the point where you offer that solution, and you're able to start that process with them. I think another thing is really doing your research in the companies that you're reaching out to, or even the companies that you're applying to, and understanding their product, because it's a lot harder to sell something that you don't know anything about. So, definitely having knowledge of the product is going to be a huge one for you.
