How do NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) caseworkers make a difference in the lives of their fellow New Yorkers? Meet Esther Adewole, a dedicated DHS supervisor in the Placement Division, as she shares the satisfaction of making a difference.

Esther, originally from Nigeria, started as a DHS caseworker in 2018 and through her hard work and initiative, she advanced to the role of supervisor. “Every day, we help people find safe shelter and connect them with resources they need to build their life,” Esther said. At DHS, there are hundreds of caseworker positions that include supporting clients in shelter, processing rental assistance packages, providing placements, and more. “So as a DHS caseworker, we have an opportunity for career advancement and also you have an opportunity to apply for other jobs in the agency,” Esther said. Moreover, Esther highlights the fulfillment she gets from her work: “I make an impact on someone’s life and that’s memorable.”
