This is a spoiler-free review of “The Familiar” by Leigh Bardugo, released in April 2024. This historical fiction fantasy has some adult content and a deliciously hideous villain you will love to hate! Please note: I totally screwed up around the 18-minute mark and mistakenly said Santangel was the mysterious gentleman who took word of Luzia’s mini-miracles to Viktor…nope. That’s a brain fart on camera. But the point is word gets back to the horrible, manipulative, narcissistic, predatory villain.

Tell me if you felt Luzia’s ambition was unseemly or if the character saw it as such. Did you get that feeling when reading the story?
