December 24, 1971. Juliane Koepcke was 17 years old when her plane disintegrated over the Amazon rainforest.

She fell 10,000 feet while still strapped to her seat — and survived.

For 11 days, she trekked through the jungle alone. No rescue team. No supplies. Maggots in her wounds. Caimans and piranhas in every river.

She followed a stream downhill, a survival trick her father taught her.

On day 11, she found a shelter. She was the only survivor out of 93 passengers.
