In 1974, the "Terracotta Army," a massive collection of life-sized terracotta sculptures of soldiers, was discovered in China. The discovery occurred on March 29, 1974, when farmers in Xiyang Village, approximately 1.5 kilometers east of the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum, were digging a well and uncovered fragments of terracotta figures and bronze weapons. The Terracotta Army was constructed to accompany Emperor Qin Shi Huang, who unified China and reigned from 221 to 210 BCE. His obsession with immortality led to this elaborate burial complex, with the army serving as guardians for his tomb. The complete collection includes over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses, along with officials, acrobats, and musicians. Each soldier's face is unique, reflecting the artisans' attention to detail and the diversity of the actual imperial army.
