Before the enactment of the Reformed Constitution of Japan in 1947, Japan was an ideologically far-right military force to be reckoned with. Having undergone the most rapid modernisation and industrialisation of any country to date, Japan was indirectly coerced by the United States to adopt a defensive and hostile stance towards it after their strifes at the Battle of Midway and Operation Watchtower.

It is without a doubt that the murder of the approximated 3 to 10 million people under Imperial Japan's rule and expansion in Asia and the Indo-Pacific has no possible justification, yet it is challenging to assimilate that the purposeful marginalisation and disparagement of Japan by the US and other Western powers would not exacerbate political tensions. Hence, is there a morally acceptable rationale that explains Japan's historical pursuit of expansion?

Our members dig deep into the topic by evaluating whether there are instances in which violence is justifiable, whether Japan had alternative pathways to colonisation through which to achieve prosperity, and whether the Allies of WWII are as innocent as they seem.
