In this video, I react to real combat footage from the Vietnam War, originally recorded and aired by CBS News.

I went into this extremely nervous. I’ve never seen actual war footage before, and as someone who is very sensitive and empathetic, this was honestly hard to watch. The video follows Charlie Company of the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division, showing the daily reality of young soldiers on patrol — the heat, exhaustion, fear, boredom, waiting, and constant danger.

What shocked me the most wasn’t explosions or combat, but how young everyone was. Seeing 18- and 20-year-olds living under these conditions, talking about home, family, and survival, really put history into perspective for me in a way books never have.

This reaction isn’t about glorifying war — it’s about understanding it. Watching real footage like this gave me a new appreciation for how different war feels when you actually see it, rather than just hear about it.
