Arizona State University is leading the way in cancer research, with one group hoping to find ways to detect certain forms of breast cancer much sooner.

A team at ASU's Biodesign Institute is conducting research to find new ways to detect and treat breast cancer, with a focus on blood-based biomarkers for early detection and a particularly difficult form of the disease called triple-negative breast cancer.

The research is personal for Executive Director Dr. Josh LaBaer, whose mother passed away from breast cancer. He believes that earlier detection could have helped her, and this motivates him to find new ways to help doctors intervene sooner and save lives.
